Just Get It! wisdom…

wisdomLife is filled with regrets… (Can you say Duh?) You win some, you lose some… (We never say this when we win.) To make an omelet you gotta break a few eggs… (But if you want a really good omelet you need cheese, onions, mushrooms, peppers and bacon too, I digress.) There are none so blind as those who will not see… (Except maybe those who CANNOT see, hello?)

Have you ever noticed peoples amazing ability to sound wise without actually being wise? If you haven’t, then all you need to do is Google a few political speeches from our last presidential election. It doesn’t matter which party. (I am an equal opportunity offender.) If that doesn’t work, wait till the next time someone sticks a microphone in front of a some celebrity’s face who is trying to justify getting caught doing something wrong.  (Or just follow me around… not an invite to stalk me.)

Wisdom and our ability to gain wisdom is one of those things that separate people from animals and eventually people from living like animals. That is why the bible says, in Proverbs 4, that we should get wisdom, hold on to wisdom, love wisdom and that if it costs us everything we have, we still should get it.

So here is the question, where do we get our wisdom? Experience?  But sometimes that just makes us experienced fools.  Books? But sometimes that makes us educated fools. Position? But sometimes that just makes us influential fools. (Awesome band name by the way, Influential Fools, in a total selfish and bad way, please don’t get mad at me, my fundamental friends.) Riches? But sometimes that makes us fools with the means to bail ourselves out. Catchy slogans? But sometimes that just makes us clever fools.

I think I want to blog a few times about wisdom and where we get it; except Wednesday, we still get our awesome quotes. But let me anchor the subject of wisdom with this. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” In other words, wisdom finds its beginning is us when God is in the right place in our lives. Wise people get that they are not God. Wise people tremble when they get close to God. Wise people live life from this vantage point; I am accountable to God. Okay that is enough for today. Off… we go now.
